The real OTL difference is the potential Personal Union with England and Scotland, and possibly a different, less hostile, relationship between Eduard and the Maid of Norway. Remember Edward II's otl wife was a major factor in his deposition and death. Maybe this won't happen here..? Also...

And also to the perfect storm that that was Charles V standing on the Pope's neck through the whole thing. If not for Charles V and the mess in Italy at the time, the Annulment would probably have gone through with no trouble...
