Non Nazi Germany and Nuclear Science

In the event that Hitler was killed during WW1 and the Nazi party never rose to power in Germany, most likely seeing a "traditional" fascist regime take charge, would Germany be more willing to invest research and funds into Nuclear energy and weapons? Many of the scientists that developed the A bombs for both the Soviets and Americans were Jewish Germans and one of the reasons Germany never pursued the bomb IOTL is that Hitler viewed nuclear science as being "Jewish". Without the Nazis and their racial lunacy and extreme antisemitism (though some would probably still be around to some degree) would they hire their Jewish researchers to develop an A bomb?
Would they use this defensively to ward off attacks from the West or the Soviets, or would they take to the offense?

Fascism is a Mussolini thing

A reactionary conservative regime modeled on Franco's Spain with the puppet Kaiser is more likely

Without the Nazis, I think the German state would be more interested in the inventions of the Jews

It’s not just the science. Nuclear bombs are resource intensive. The only country with the resources to crack out a nuclear bomb in the short term was the United States.
