Salazar, dictator of Portugal had a stroke(or was it heart attack?) in 1968 but he survived and ruled as a delusional warlord for a few more years. But what if he died in 1968 itself. Could it possibly lead to the Estado Novo strongmen restoring the monarchy as had happened in neighbouring Spain?
Or was the time for monarchy already passed?
If you want then lets assume for the purpose of this timeline that Estado Novo gets a free game bonus, that being an overwhelmingly successful anti colonial campaign where the top leaders of the FRELIMO and MPLA suddenly die of an airstrike and South Africa remains strongly supportive under Verwoerd
Basically a type of buff to a certain character like in video games
Under these conditions is it possible?
Note that Caetano doesn't necessarily have to be Salazar's successor
